An Honest Opinion: The Rant Fest of the Day

    “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America…” We have all heard these words at some point in our life. In fact a lot of us hear it every single day. But how often do you stop to think about what you are really saying? And if you do, do you really agree? I know I don’t.

    So let’s break this down. “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America.” Allegiance is the key word in this statement. Allegiance meaning loyalty or commitment. It also says “... to the flag”. In case the flag, of course, means the USA. So, yeah, every day we are basically saying we will be loyal to our country while other people are running around joining ISIS. In fact, over 200 Americans have tried to join ISIS. Fabulous isn’t it?

    “And to the republic for which we stand.” A republic, in case you didn’t know, is a form of government where you elect your people of power. Yes, we are a republic but is it a fair republic? No. Politicians running for president are essentially spending billions of dollars on crap to buy your votes. President Obama spent a total of 683,546,548 dollars on his presidential campaign! All the politicians say they will make our country a better place, but is that true? Also a no. I mean, seriously? They’re greedily blowing cash while people in poverty are begging for someone else’s loose change. How could someone wanting a better country do that?

    “One nation, under God. Indivisible.” Indivisible. A big long word meaning that we won’t divide. One nation. Might I remind anyone of the Civil War? Are we really so special that we are completely unable to have another one? Look at Korea, for goodness sakes! They were one nation too and now they’re half Communist! And while we may be under God’s grace and in His mercy does anyone care? No! They’re too caught up trying to solve their own silly “problems” when all they have to do is look to God for the answer.

    “With liberty and justice for all.” The last line. Some might argue this is the most important line of the pledge and I totally agree. But I think it’s most important because it’s something we need to achieve. Some people might be all like, “ Oh we are so lucky to have liberty and justice and blah, blah, blah.” And I agree. Partially. We are very, very lucky to have our liberty. But where in the world is our justice?

If I were to  ask someone that they might say “Just look at how we used justice with that Boston bombing terrorist guy!” But then I would look at them like they’re idiots. I mean, really?! You call killing a guy justice?! Yeah, he killed and hurt a lot of people but the thing is sometimes death can be more of a reward than a punishment. Not to mention the death sentence is totally inhumane, but that’s another rant fest. Ok, back to justice. If you don’t see my point there then we’ll move to another current event.

The shootings of black people. This is a very good place to prove my point. Madison, Wisconsin. Wisconsin isn’t really the first state you would think of if someone asked you to name a state. Well, unless you live there. But everyone in the country looked at Wisconsin when unarmed, African-American,Tony Robinson was shot by a white police officer on March 6, 2015. It is so not fair for police to be basically going around shooting black people and then nobody does anything! People protest and show how they hate it but does the government care?! No! They just pat the police officer on the back and declare them cleared of all charges!

Ok, now I believe I will climb off my soapbox and bring this today’s rant fest to a close. But consider this: Next time you say the Pledge of Allegiance instead of mindlessly reciting it, try to use it to make a difference for the better. No matter how big or small, old or young you are you are just as capable in making our world the place that people like Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela dreamed about.

Ok so I've had this blog for roughly two years or so. I really don't know if I'm going to keep it up. I really don't know if anyone reads it, I never post... I just don't know anymore. With the mounds of homework we get in school... I doubt I will post again for practically another month. If you think I should keep it up comment but otherwise... well I might just pull the plug on this one. Thank you.

School

School starts for most places on September second. I certainly can't wait! Everyone thinks I'm crazy but I quite like school. I'm really excited though for my electives which are: French,Orchestra, FACE (that's what my school calls Home Ec.), Tech Ed., and Chorus. The one part though that I'm really looking forward to though is the school musical. Unfortunately that doesn't happen until March or sometime in Spring. I'm also taking Social Studies, Accelerated Math, Advanced English, and Science. One last thing I would like to add to this blog entry is a video. It's only 18 seconds but I like it. It was recommended to me by one of my friends and it's called "Welcome to the Crying Circus". That's the top one. The bottom one is by the same person and called "How to Kidnap Your Bro and Hit him with a Shoe". Please Take the poll on which one you like better.    <3 VICTORIA

American Girl Benefit Sale

Tomorrow is the American Girl Benefit Sale where all the proceeds go towards the Children's Museum. So unless you live in the same state as me you probably have no clue what I'm talking about. Well my readers this is a HUGE sale of American Girl clothes, accessories, dolls, furniture, and other AG stuff. Everything goes like half price frost the catalog prices! Unfortunately if you don't get there reeeaaally early whatever you want will be sold out by the time you actually get into the building.  They only let 100 people in at a time. So me, my sister, and my mom will be getting up at 1:00 A.M!!!!!! The last time we did this was like two years ago. But like all the people go CRAZY!!! The minute you walk through the doors everyone like stampedes to the dolls. Last time there was a girl probably like eight or so who had a whole garbage bag full of dolls! Wish me luck folks!

ARGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UGH! I made yet another bad buy. Well on June 15th was my birthday and from one of my friends I got a Walmart gift card. So I was going around Walmart and I see this Singer (that's the brand)knitting machine! All you have to do is put yarn in it and turn a crank around and around and it knits for you! Even better it was on sale for 7 dollars when it was originally 20! So I got it. When I got home I immediately took it out and started using it. So I tried and tried but I could not make a single thing that wasn't full of holes because the stupid machine kept skipping stiches. I tried all evening and the morning of the next day but still nothing. So I decided that I am just going to return that darn machine and get my money back! Anyway on that happy note I have some announcements. First I have over 300 views on my blog!!!!! Yay for that! Second I am holding a writing contest on one of my other blogs. Have you ever wished you were different? Maybe you wish you were prettier or smarter or  cooler. Maybe you have some sort of illness or problem with your body that you wish you could get rid of. Chapter 2

Lee Harvey Oswald

Of all the things that could happen today it has to be bystander that ruins my plan. Oswald thought. Oswald was raging. Karina was pale and frightened. “Umm I think I’ll go now….” Karina stammered.  

“Oh you ain't gonna go anywhere Ms. Johnson,” Oswald said forcefully. “As a matter of fact I think you might just be comin’ with me. “ Oswald’s new plan was risky but if he let Karina go she might go blabbing to the police. “Girl you come here or I might just have to come and get you,” Oswald said. Karina did move but it wasn't toward him. She ran to the door. With one swift movement Oswald pulled out the shotgun that had murdered the president. “One more movement Karina and you can go see your beloved president again. “

Karina froze that time. Good. All is going as I planned. We’ll get out of here and I’ll head to that abandoned cabin up by the lake. Oswald grabbed Karina by the hood of her hoodie and tied her arms and legs together. “If you make any attempt to escape from me I will make sure that the next time your mom sees you you won’t be breathing. Are we clear?” Oswald demanded. He didn't even have to see her nod her head to know that they were.

    Chapter 1

Day 1

Karina

In one short day Karina’s life changed forever. That one day was November 22, 1963. In other words the day President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was shot and killed. Karina  is a normal girl who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Her secret is: she could have saved President Kennedy.

    Karina Johnson was 13 and lived in Dallas, Texas with her mother Andrea Johnson. Andrea works at at the Texas School Book Depository. She worked on the sixth floor. Karina was outside the building because it gave an excellent view of the motorcade that would be coming down the street any minute. There were lots of police and lots and lots of spectators. Then Karina saw the president’s car coming. She ran upstairs to get her mother so that she could see the president too. Karina ran up the stairs as fast as her leather boots could carry her. When she got there her mother wasn’t there. But her mom’s co-worker Mr. Lee Harvey Oswald was. She stifled a scream when she saw him. She wasn’t screaming because he was ugly or scary. Well at least he usually wasn’t scary. At this particular time though he was. That was because he was holding a gun and pointing it at the oncoming motorcade. Karina stood there frozen as Oswald pulled the trigger. Then Karina let out the scream she had been holding along with the people in the crowd. But her scream was a mix of disbelief, rage and most of all: regret. I practically killed the president! she thought. Then Oswald turned around.

I Auditioned!!!

Today was the Overture Center Rising Stars Talent Search! Today I auditioned in front of 4 semi-famous judges! I highly doubt I will be voted into the next round. I felt like I did well but I don't think the judges were very impressed. Maybe if they knew I've never taken a singing lesson before they would. Otherwise I will just have to wait until Wednesday to see for sure! All the other acts were really good. There was a violinist who was 11. There was an a cappella singer who was 13. There was a piano player who was in his 50's and when he was playing the keyboard stand came crashing down. There was one lady who did this German Wheel act. I put a picture of a German Wheel below. Lastly there was a 15 year old dancer named Allie who I know. Allie did really well. Good luck if your reading this Allie! Then there was me. I have a pretty good voice but compared to the rest of the acts mine was horrible. We'll just have to see! Wish me luck. I will update on Wednesday. <3 VICTORIA

Overture Centure Rising Stars Talent Search

Hi readers! As you see in the title I am auditioning for a talent show! I will sing and I am singing Castle on a Cloud from Les Miserables. It has a haunting melody and I will be singing it with an English accent to sound like the actress. I will post the video if you want to see it. Wish me luck! Pi Day

Happy Pi Day all my readers from all over the world! No really I have had people read this blog from as far away as Russia and Malaysia. But anyway today is Pi Day because it is the 14th day of third month ( get it 3.14). We did a activity with pi in math today and me and a couple others brought in pies. I made a French Silk pie and it turned out good! It was gone fast. But next year is ultimate Pi Day because it will be 3/14/15 (3.1415). This is the highest I can count for pi numbers. 3.14159265. Not very high I know. But I would love to see how high you can count in pi. Of course please comment. Thanks!

Hi readers! I am so happy / unhappy!!!!!!!!!! So I probably should tell you why because I'm confusing you. So my dad is a Spainish teacher and my aunt is a French teacher. Together they are planning a Spain and France trip for the summer of 2015. Dad made me a deal. (This is the bad part) If I can get the 4,000 dollars it will take to get me to Spain and France then I can go too!!!!!!!!!!!! So I must get the money because I've ALWAYS wanted to go to France. Wish me luck!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day! This is like one of my favorite holidays! I love picking out cards that will suit each classmate. Unfortunately, a) next year most likely there will be no more valentines and b) all our valentines are kind of juvenile. I mean would a sixth grader want the choice of Star Wars or Spiderman? Not really. How about Hello Kitty or Tinker Bell? Excuse me?! So anyways I went with these awesome fortune teller valentines for girls and for the boys (sadly because there was no other choice than Spider Man) I went with Star Wars. Have any of you ever had a Valentines Day problem (bad boyfriend gifts count ;) )? Well once again Happy Valentines Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
